It was another home game for AFC this week against the Indiana Fire. After sending out my usual email to the opposing team I found out that Indiana only had a white and blue jersey with blue socks and blue shorts. This was a problem for us as we normally wear blue for our home games. In going back and forth with the coach and team administrator I had to contact Terry and let him know to bring both uniforms just in case.
At the game a had to sort out who was going to wear what on top of getting everything else situated.
I was on my own this week in the both and had to use the old mach report form since the technical director Mike was out of town so we had no computer or printer. It was a fiery game from the beginning but with just about 5 minutes remaining in the game there was a tackle between two players just by the endline which brought both players to the ground. An AFC Cleveland player ran over to protect his teammate and from what it looked like in the booth was him pushing the Indiana player away. Unfortunately, there is a lacrosse netting and track behind the field and the Indiana player must have struck his head on one of the poles or the ground. However, the Indiana coaches and players were adamant that our player punched or kicked their player. An ambulance was called to the field and the player was taken away with a concussion. While all of this was going on the Indiana coach was none to pleased and resulted in his dismissal from the match. After the game when I went down to get the proper signatures the head referee asked for me to walk him to the locker room as the Indiana players, coaches and fans were all over them. It did not help that the referees locker rooms were right next to the Indiana locker rooms as well. I had to shut the Indiana locker room dorm and stop the coach from chasing down the referees. I was then with the referees until they left. It was a very interesting night that showed there should be police their to escort the referees after the matches. After all they are already there for the games as well.
