It was my first home game at our new venue Rocky River Stadium and first actual NPSL game. It was an interesting time gearing up for the game. I had to reach out to Erie to see what uniform colors they were wearing and give them information about everything for the game. Getting the uniform colors not to clash was a bit of a task for Erie to do. Odd in a league that mandates two uniforms. Both teams are mainly blue and white which proved to be a problem.
It was Erie's first game of the season as well which I thought was weird seeing as we have had two games already. The league does not really do a good job with the scheduling of games as it allows the teams to make their own schedules.
It was interesting getting used to the new set up and finding the facilities people to open the correct locker rooms was a trying process. Not to mention Erie arrived very early and we were not really prepared for them. Luckily I had all of the proper paperwork complete and done in the correct order this week. I made sure to get the sub passes to the referees upon arrival and the line ups and will call sheets to the coaches. After that I took the PA script up to the box for the PA announcer. An hour before kickoff I made sure to track down the coaches for the lineups and will call sheets. Once I had both of those I gave a copy of the rosters to the referees, a copy to the press box and the will call sheets to the ticket window.
This weeks referee was a real stickler to the rules and would not come out of the locker room until he received both rosters which was very odd. In the press box the clock seemed to be an issue as we wanted the clock to count up but it would not allow us to. Therefore, there were changes that had to be made in my PA script to ensure that he read off the correct items at the right time and it was not confusing. Rumor is next week we are going to try and fix the clock but we shall see. After the game I learned that you need to go down right after to get the signatures from coaches and referees as our own head coach was gone before I could get his signature! Next time I will need to get there right after the game. Once I had to send the score to the league within four hours after the game. Luckily I was able to type everything up on the technical directors computer and then print it out and scan it to the league.
