Creating the questions for a chapter is often the hardest. Coming up with ways to ask similar questions can be tasking. In chapter 2 there was some difficulty in find multiple choice questions as coming up with possible other options can be a real challenge. The use of key terms does help to make things easier as I was able to use those to provide a definition and then create a multiple choice option from there. I learned from chapter one to just work through as many as you can and then go from there. I found myself getting stuck a lot in chapter 2 with not trying to ask the same question.
Terry has sent me all the final notes about traveling. I made sure to set up all the itinerary so that it had all of the information. There was much more information on the itineraries as we were trying to cover all of the three days as opposed to a few days opposed to just one day. I made sure to shrink down the font to keep everything on one page as it would be easier to keep everything on one for him and the players.
Chapter 11 was entitled game changers and how to address performance counseling and conflict resolution. The behavior of employees is very important to discuss and needed to be hit on in the power point. It is also important to talk about conflict resolution as there are bound to be conflicts that go on in the work place. When meeting with people about performance it is very interesting to see what phases you should go through. The phases were outlined in the power point to ensure they would know them. Taking disciplinary action against employees is never desired but sometimes needs to be done. Termination may need to occur if the grounds permit it.
Terry has updated me on things regarding playoffs and he is very busy trying to sort everything thing out. The league is communicating with him about the travel so it is very interesting as we must wait to get everything. I was able to set up part of the travel itineraries as he had the departure locations down. We had to plan a schedule for the semifinals and finals as we hope to be playing in the finals.
As mentioned from the reading chapter 10 focuses on the motivation and performance management of sports organizations. It is interesting to create a power point on motivation as it is interesting to see all the different types of motivation that are even out there. Intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation are wroth examining as well as many people to struggle with those. Performance management is another key topic that had to be outlined as you need to hit the key topics of the defining performance, planning, execution, monitoring and reporting. It was good to go back and learn the material again and I will look to go back and review everything once I finish all of the power points and questions.
Caught up with Terry today about the weekend. The Royals qualified in second place with all of the results that occurred over the weekend. This meant we were headed to Wisconsin as the Madison team finished in first place. We did not even play them which Terry and I discussed. We talked about the travel arrangement and he is going to get me all of the information as we continue to move forward. I am going to touchbase with Terry again tomorrow and hope to have more information to prepare for the trip.
Once again I am continuing to work through chapters and creating the proper power points of each. Chapter 9 talks about the staff and leadership. It is always interesting to discuss the leadership styles and theories that are out there. It is easier to place those in a power point and then discuss those topics. The detail is lost a little bit but should be able to get the ideas and concepts. Management is the foundation of a company and it is important to understand the roles and functions that go with each therefore much of that is discussed in the power point. The running of staff meetings is also touched on. As I continue to move along I will come back again after I am all done to make any final adjustments or edits.
Training is a very interesting topic to write about and it was very interesting to create a power point off the book as well. There are so many different types of training out there that I did not know about when I read the chapter so I made sure to include the various types in the power points as well. The methods for training we all know could be endless so it is important to speak to many of those as well. The designing of training is a complex issue that each business needs to sort out as well which need to be linked to the needs and goals of the training that is going on. Afterwards it is very important to assess the training as well. If the training is not assessed then their will be problem all of time that keep occurring. I made sure to include some of the ways to asses the training effectiveness.
Continuing on the power points again in chapter 5 it talks more about aquiring talent and how to make the decision of who you would like to pick. Interviewing is a very interesting process to go through and you never know what you are going to learn from each of the questions that are asked. I tried to make sure that I included the different types of questions that would be asked as well. The screening tools were key to take care of in terms of making a good selection. Background checks are being the way of the world and there are so many different ones it is crazy. The handling of the selection process is unique to each business as well.
Continuing on the power point trail I again had to set up everything for a power point on chapter 4 which was focused on recruiting which was a special chapter for me as it is the major part of being apart of being a college coach. The internal and external candidates factor was something very important to talk about as well. The management of the materials is very interesting from place to place and how you plan to use it. There are some great chart examples that should be included into the material as well. It is always interesting to note what should and should not go in the power points because you do not want them to be to wordy. I am saving my final review for later but as of now it is all but done in many ways.
